The team at De Facto has extensive experience of developing strategies for geographical areas and/or specific industry sectors. Our work stands out because not only do we carefully research and develop incisive and relevant strategies – but we also provide action plans that, when implemented, can bring those strategies to life and really make a difference.
As just one example of what our clients think of us, the South West RDA wrote to express their thanks for the work we had carried out for them, saying “I wish to convey the thanks and appreciation of the Group for the dedication and enthusiasm of you and your team in carrying out this challenging commission. The final reports represent very high quality pieces of work which will undoubtedly be of seminal importance.”We can best demonstrate our expertise in this area through examples of our work – click below to read about specific examples, or click here for a pdf summarising our experience.
The aim of this major regeneration initiative was to develop a regional resource centre for urban development in the region. Our role was to carry out a ‘mapping & gapping’ exercise which clarified the policies and initiatives already in existence throughout the region, to identify issues and recommendations arising from this analysis, and develop an action plan for implementation.
We designed, administered and analysed a postal questionnaire exercise, and built on this through the facilitation of a working group panel to address issues and identify actions. We then drew up a strategic implementation plan.
Our South West RDA client wrote to thank us for preparing ‘very high quality pieces of work which will undoubtedly be of seminal importance in guiding the ongoing evolution of Design South West’’.

This was a major commission to establish the needs of the applied arts sector in Cornwall and to provide a Sector Development Strategy. Our work involved a comprehensive industry survey and market assessment leading to a strategy linked to the South West Regional Development Agency and Objective One strategic priorities. The strategy was prioritised and costed, providing the client with a clear framework for developing the sector and achieving the related economic benefits for those working within the sector, and for Cornwall as a whole.

We worked with Forest Enterprise in a facilitation capacity to agree a set of strategic priorities for the Peninsula Forest District. We were then engaged in the process of partner and project prioritisation, development and funding in order to ensure that the strategy’s aims and objectives are achieved.

Having raised a development budget for this work on behalf of our client, Porthleven Town Council, we prepared a ten-year regeneration strategy and accompanying action plan for this town in West Cornwall. Our work involved extensive community consultation through focus groups and postal questionnaires to every resident of the town, analysis of the results of this consultation and gathering of baseline demographic information.
The resulting strategy was accompanied by a summary development framework, seven programme strands with key projects identified, and recommended delivery mechanisms.
At the time, the IAP facilitator for the District said that our document was ‘regarded as the best consultation document which has been seen in a long time’.
